About CurrencyConverter.org

I'm Matt, and I built CurrencyConverter.org.

I've spent the last ten years working in foreign exchange and payments in the UK, across banking, treasury and payments teams. A lot of that time has gone into exchange rates, and into how people and businesses move money from one currency to another.

This site started as a hobby project. Most currency converters give you today's rate and nothing else. I wanted somewhere that shows exchange rates clearly, explains what the numbers mean, and gives you enough context to make a sensible decision about when and how to convert or send money.

What you'll find here

Nobody knows where a rate is going next

There's no crystal ball with exchange rates. No one knows exactly what will happen next. What you can do is understand how currency markets work: what drives a particular currency, how it tends to react to interest rate decisions, inflation figures and political events, and how far it has moved before. That won't tell you the future, but it will help you make a more informed decision.

About the rates

The rates on this site are mid-market rates: the midpoint between what buyers and sellers are paying on the wholesale market. Banks and money transfer providers usually add a margin on top, so the rate you're offered will normally be lower. Comparing the two is the quickest way to see what a transfer is really costing you.

How the site is funded

CurrencyConverter.org is free to use. It's supported by affiliate partnerships with money transfer providers. If you follow a link to one of them and make a transfer, the site may earn a commission. That never affects the rates shown here, which are always the independent mid-market rate.
